Mission Statement

We Do Shows

The experience of a live performance can be a powerful catalyst. It can nourish the soul, ignite the creative spirit of an individual to sing for the first time, or rekindle a passion for performing. Since 1989, TMC Arts has been enriching the lives of our Bay Area community.

History

TMC Arts began in The Music Company record store in Castro Valley. The year was 1989. After a couple of years working the record store, Mel and Dayna Speed began doing DJ/sound events. Their first corporate event was a skit-comedy show at a small local East Bay Theatre, which sparked a desire to gradually move the company towards producing events.

In 2004, the Speeds closed the record store and began to work on productions full time. The Music Company then became TMC Productions. Specializing in lights and sound for live performances such as corporate murder mystery events, concerts, live-action theatrical experiences and holiday shows, TMC became the go-to company in the Bay Area to plan occasions and celebrations.

Assisting in county events for years, Mel and Dayna wanted to find a unique way to give back to the community. Pulling together friends and co-workers in dance and live theatre, TMC Productions partnered with Alameda County Economic Development and produced the Castro Valley Holiday Light Parade. Following the success of this event, TMC recently formed TMC Arts—a non-profit focused on bringing performing arts into the community.

TMC Arts has partnered with the Castro Valley Arts Foundation to produce full scale musicals incorporating Bay Area talent, specialists and students to enhance and inspire our community to provide learning experiences for up-and-coming theatre professionals and to support the return of the performing arts following the pandemic. In 2024 TMC Arts has partnered with Level Up to go in to schools and speak about non-traditional career paths and the value of trade schools such as electrician and tech schools. These kinds of careers directly affect jobs in the theatre industry and we feel it is so important to let high schoolers know there is a great future in non-traditional career paths.
